Standing in stark contrast to the staid cultural celebration of Boston’s annual Winterfest celebration as described in the video here, BCM design director Michael Sand and museum director Michael Spock threw a very different sort of party for the children of Boston in the Hynes Convention Center. Thanks to sleuthing from Spock’s son Dan, we think these photos are from the 1966 event, which was used to promote the upcoming Children’s Museum visitor center. The unbridled joy of open play is apparent throughout (and if pressed, Dan might share his memory of laughing maniacally through a split lip, not wanting to be pulled away despite bleeding from the face).
